History

Uyo City Polytechnic metamorphosed from the former School of Accountancy and Business Studies, Uyo, which was established in September 1972 and approved by the Ministry of Education of the erstwhile South Eastern State of Nigeria with a Backup Letter referenced MOE/PL/27/58. In April 1997, the Akwa Ibom State Government through its Ministry of Education issued a letter upholding the earlier approval of the school referenced MOE/SS/30/VOL 111/SUB.22/123. The school had been affiliated to The Polytechnic, Calabar, Cross River State University and later University of Uyo but in September 2003, changed its name to Uyo City Polytechnic and was incorporated as a Tertiary Institution under the Company and Allied matters acts of 1990 (RC1019539). The institution is approved and licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Its mission is to operate a polytechnic that will be relevant in addressing the needs and challenges of the 21st Century. Its major objective is to provide improvement in technical education, through consistent research and development and establishing and maintaining regular contact with relevant agencies, institutions and organizations in both private and public sectors to help inculcate students with competent and requisite skills needed in their various fields of study.
